Day 1 : Ikh gazriin chuluu
Ikh gazriin chuluu park and its fascinating rock formations. Dinner and night under canvass (tent).
Day 5 : Ongi monastery
From Tsagaan Suvarga to Ongiin Hiid, (a large monastery destroyed at the end of the 1930’s, where monks were assassinated under communist rule). Dinner, night under canvass (tent).
Day 6 : Arvaikheer and Ovorkhangai
Take the road to Arvaikheer, Ovorkhangai (the green province famous for its herds of horses). Dinner, night under canvass (tent).
Day 7 : Orkhon falls
From Arvayheer to the Orkhon falls (a touristic site with interesting volcanic and lunar surroundings). Dinner, night under canvass (tent).
Day 8 : Tuvkhun monastery
5km trek on Undur-Ovoot mountain at an altitude of 2312 m. Visit the Tuvkhun monastery, built in 1654 and listed by UNESCO in 1996. Lunch at the monastery, descent, dinner, night under canvass (tent) in the Steppes.
Day 9 : The Taikhar ratchet
The Taikhar ratchet situated on the banks of the Tamir stream. See ancient Mongolian stone engravings.
Day 10 : Terkhiin tsagaan Lake
At an altitude of 2240m, Khorgo volcano, (200m wide , 100m deep) and Lake Terkhiin tsagaan are well worth a visit. The lake was formed when the rivers Hoyd and Urd, were blocked by hot volcanic larva. It’s 16km long, 20m deep and between 4 & 10km wide. Lunch, dinner, night under canvass (tent).
Day 11 : Chuluut canyon
The Chuluut stream flows into the rivers Ider and Delger becomes the Selenge which flows into Lake Baïkal in Russia.
Day 12 : Uran (an extinct volcano)
and the Bulgan province
See the ancient volcano Uran Togoo at an altitude of 1686 m, a magnificent lake (depth 50-60 m, width 500-600 m) and a larch forest .
Day 13 : The Amarbayasgalant monastery
Amarbayasgalant is one of Mongolia’s most famous monasteries and escaped destruction during the 1930s when Mongolia was under communist rule. It was built between entre 1727 and 1736 as a memorial to Undur Gege en Zanabazar, a monk, sculptor and philosopher. In 1943 the monastery was listed by UNESCO. In 1724 the ancient capital of Mongolia, Ikh Khuree was located in the valley.
Day 14 : Return to Ulan Bator.
