Discover Mongolia by 4x4 van and on horseback or on foot (you have the choice). Visit Arkhengai (Mongolia’s historic center), Orkhon Valley and Khuvsgul Lake in the north.

Visit monasteries and ancient cities, take in the breath-taking scenery in the Steppes and meet genuine Mongolian nomad families.

The order of events for the Transmongolian Railway trip from Peking (Beijing) to Ulan-Bator may be modified or inverted according to your flight dates and times.

Any additional reservations for the Transiberian Railway and/or for return international flights from Mongolia to China must be booked 3 months in advance

Day 1 : Flight from Paris to Peking (Beijing)
Visit Peking (Beijing) : The Forbidden City and Hutongs. Bed and breakfast at the Tianxiang Courtyard Hotel (see hotel website for more information : www.courtyard-hotel.com.cn)

Day 2 : Trekking on the Great Wall of China :
The minibus leaves the hotel at 6.30am. The journey takes 2 hours. Trekking from 9.00am-1.00pm (please take 2 bottles of water per person and a snack or sandwich). Minibus leaves at 3.00pm. Arrival in Beijing : 5.00pm. Evening meal at a restaurant in the city and bed and breakfast at the Tianxiang Courtyard Hotel.

Day 3 : Transmongolian Railway from Beijing to Ulan-Bator.
- Leave Beijing’s Central Station at 7.00 am
- Travel through Mongolia’s vast and diverse countryside
- Mountains, vegetation, fruit trees, traditional houses and gardens.
- Pass the Great Wall of China just outside Beijing.
- Pass through the Gobi Desert and cross the Mongolian- Chinese border at around midnight.
- Accommodation in sleeper wagon (bunks) for 4 people.

Day 4 : Cross the Gobi Desert and arrival in Ulan Bator
- Night and morning sleeping and/or relaxing on the train.
- Travel through the Gobi desert and see the first yurts in the Steppe.
- Arrival in Ulan Bator at around 2pm.
- Visit Ulan-Bator’s monastery with your guide.
- At 5.00pm, enjoy a traditional Mongolian singing dancing show.
- Evening meal at a restaurant of your choice.
- Bed and breakfast at the Little Marmot guesthouse (hostel).

Day 5 : Visit the historic town of Karakorum.
- Departure at around 10.00am accompanied by your English-speaking driver and guide. (We prepare your food, cooking utensils, camping equipment, and enough water and diesel for the tour).
- Experience the beauty of the great open Monoglian plains for the first time.
- Visit the ancient capital of Karakorum and the Erdene zuu monastery built in 1585.
- Evening meal and night under canvass. Day 6 : Tuvkhun monastery
- Trek on foot (5km) to the top of Undur-Ovoot mountain at an altitude of 2312m.
- Visit Tuvkhun monastery : Built in 1654 and listed by UNESCO in 1996.
- Lunch at the monastery then set off for Arkhangai and the Orkhon Valley (a volcanic area located at an altitude of 3000m). Volcanic craters, larch forests, nomads living in yurts in the valley, wild horses.
- Evening meal and night with nomad family.

Days 7 to 11: Horseback tour Orkhon Valley to the Eight Lakes region (we cover between 15, 20km per day)
- Morning at the camp with our riding guide. Riding induction and selection and preparation of our horses.
- Set off during the morning for Eight Lakes Valley. A beautiful, unspoilt region where we can wash and swim in fresh spring water. Fishing for Lenok trout (for the fishermen among us !).
- Evening meal and night under canvass (tents)
- Our 4x4 van with our equipment, food and luggage, follows at a distance.

Day 12 : Khorgo volcano and Lake Terkhiin tsagaan nuur
- At an altitude of 2240m, Khorgo volcano, (200m wide and 100m deep) and Lake Terkhiin tsagaan are well worth a visit. The lake was formed when the rivers Hoyd and Urd, were blocked by hot volcanic larva. It’s 16km long, 20m deep and between 4 and 10km wide.
- Lunch, dinner, night under canvass (tent).


Days 13 and 14 : From the province of Teel to Khuvsgul Lake
- Enjoy some of Mongolia’s most beautiful scenery.
- Evening meal and night under canvass (tents) or in a wooden chalet near Lake Khuvsgul.

Days 15 and 16 : Horseback tour on the west side of Lake Khuvsgul.
- Lake Khuvsgul is situated in a steep wooded area in the larch forest and is surrounded by breath-taking mountainous scenery (boasting summits of between 2900m and 3100m).
- Swimming in Lake Khuvsgul (fishing is permitted).
- Evening meal and night under canvass (tents) on the banks of Lake Khuvsgul.

Days 17, 18 and 19 : Ih-Uul, Khutag Undur and
Amarbayasgalant monastery
- From Khuvsgul, we take the road to the south-east passing through the villages of Ih-Uul and Khutag Undur to Amarbayasgalant monastery.
- Amarbayasgalant is one of Mongolia’s most famous monasteries and escaped destruction during the 1930s when Mongolia was under communist rule. It was built between entre 1727 and 1736 as a memorial to Undur Gege en Zanabazar, a monk, sculptor and philosopher. In 1943 the monastery was listed by UNESCO. In 1724 the ancient capital of Mongolia, Ikh Khuree was located in the valley.
- Evening meal and night under canvass (tents)

Day 20 : Return to Ulan Bator
- Arrival in Ulan Bator during the day.
- Evening meal at a restaurant of your choice.
- Bed and breakfast at the Petite Marmotte guesthouse (hostel).


Day 21 : Flight from Ulan Bator to Beijing
- (Flight times permitting), we visit Beijing Palace
- Shopping at the Beijing’s Silk Market followed by a foot and body massage !
- Your choice of Pekinese local speciality restaurants
- Bed and breakfast at the Tianxiang Courtyard Hotel

Day 22 : Transfer to the airport and flight from Beijing to Paris
