

Day 1 :
Transfer to the Petite Marmotte guesthouse (hostel). Touristic visits in Ulan-Bator and birdwatching in Naïramdal Park and along the Tuul River (south of the town). Famous for the azur tit.

Day 2 : Ulan Bator - Gorkhi Terelj National Park.

Scenery and surroundings similar to those found in Switzerland or the Jura in France. As we go further into the park, we’ll find some splendid, isolated locations to set up camp.We know a hospitable Mongolian family there 47° 58’ 87 N – 107° 26’ 29 E, altitude : 1586 m).

Day 3 :
We travel from Ulan Bator to Bayannuur (south west of Bulgan Aïmag, a wet region). We spend our first night next to a little lake called Rich Lake about 80 km. We can observe demoiselle cranes here.

We camp near the town.
Day 9 : Lake Böön Tsagaan Nuur

We start bird-watching at around 6am so we can take advantage of the favorable weather conditions. We then continue our journey to the east. We stop at the summit of a mountain pass and observe the bird activity.
Dinner and night under canvass (tent).
Day 11 : Orog Nuur to Nergui (Aïmag Omnogobi).

Day 12 : Khongoryn Els dunes to Khongotyn Gol

After a day’s travelling, we set up camp at the foot of the Khongoryn Els dunes, alongside the Khongoryn Gol stream close to a saxaul forest (only found in central Asia, in desert or semi-desert zones). Camels love this tree as does the saxaul sparrow.
Day 13 : Saxaouls to Gurvan Saykhan

Day 14 : Gurvan Saykhan National Park

We observe Eurasian and Père David’s snowfinches. We camp at an altitude of 2368 (43° 30’ 10 N – 103° 59’ 56 E).

Day 15 : Yolyn Am Gorge

We admire the beautiful scenery in Gobi-Altaï. We arrive at Yolyn Am Gorge (Vulture Gorge). Famous for its glacier which forms on the water that crosses it (should remain frozen all year round). Popular with tourists. We set up camp near the gorge at an altitude of 2307 m.
Day 16 : Yolyn Am Gorge

We make our way back to Ulan Bator. Night under canvass in Tsaagan Suvanga (White Ridge)

Day 18 : Return to Ulan-Bator
(Aïmag Omnogobi).
We travel though isolated, deserted countryside. Opportunities to see other birds (Mongolian plovers etc). Night under canvass 1 hour from Gazriin Chuluu (a 100 or so km to the east of Mandalgov).

Day 19 : Ulan Bator
Arrival in Ulan Bator during the day. Night at the Petite Marmotte guesthouse (hostel) or hotel.
Day 20 :
Transfer to the station/airport & return flight.
