
Day 1 : Ikh gazriin chuluu
Drive south to Gobi. Visit the Ikh gazriin chuluu park, its fascinating rock formations.

Day 2 : Ulaan Suvraga and Tsagaan Suvraga
We head for Ulaan Suvraga or red ridge , (a strange blood-red-coloured mountain ridge). Look out for rock paintings. Visit Tsagaan Suvraga or white ridge (a white chalk mountain, with hints of pink and red, with fascinating rock formations created through wind and water erosion). A walk in the mountains, where we look out for the numerous sea fossils, (a lake used to be located here).

Days 3 & 4 : Yoliin Am and Khongoriin els
We take the road to Yoliin Am canyon. Walk in the canyon (see wild Argali sheep, ibex, goats and bearded vultures). We set up camp, have dinner and spend the night under canvass (tent).

Day 5 : « Orog » Lake

Day 6 : Gobi-Altaï
Head west to the Gobi-Altaï province through arid mountain scenery. Dinner and night under canvass (tent).

Day 7 : Altaï
Visit the town of Altaï , regional capital of Gobi-Altaï . Altitude 2181m. Famous for its camels ! Dinner and night under canvass (tent) just outside Altaï.

Day 8 : Mankhan
From Gobi, through Altaï not far from the Hovd province (a green, mountainous area), to the Manhan nature reserve, (last remaining habitat for the Saïga antilope, currently under threat of extinction). Dinner and night under canvass (tent).

Day 9 : Mount Tsambagarav
Take the road to Hovd, then to Mount Tsambagarav, (meaning sacred white in Tibetan, altitude 4202m). Night at the foot of the Tsast Uul peak (snow-covered mountain). Dinner and night under canvass (tent).
Head for Ölgiy, capital of Bayan-Ölgi and the Kazakh culture. Visit the town, the museum and the mosque. Dinner and night under canvass (tent) just outside the town.
From Ölgiy towards the Tavan Bogd chain, (meaning the 5 saints, the highest point in Mongolia with Mount Huiten at an altitude of 4374 m). Stop at Lake Hoton. Dinner, night under canvass (tent).

Day 13 : Lake Achit (altitude 1464 m)
The Khovd, Bukhmurun, Altangadas streams flow into the lake. Full of fish (grayling and yellow Altaï). Dinner, night under canvass (tent).
Visit Ulaangom, the capital of the vs province. Uvs Lake (the biggest saline lake in the country. Listed by UNESCO in 2003). Varied scenery semi-desert, desert, steppe, taiga, tundra and glacier. Dinner, night under canvass (tent).
Altitude approx 1000 m. 180km long, 50km wide. Eastern part is called Altan els or Golden Sands . Is part of the Uvs nature reserve.
Day 16 : Lake Telmen
Situated in the Zavkhan province, a Khangai lake. Dinner, night under canvass (tent).
At an altitude of 2240m, Khorgo volcano, (200m wide 100m deep) and Lake Terkhiin tsagaan are well worth a visit. The lake was formed when the rivers Hoyd and Urd, were blocked by hot volcanic larva. It’s 16km long, 20m deep and between 4 , 10km wide. Lunch, dinner & night under canvass (tent).
Day 18 : The Taikhar ratchet
The Taikhar ratchet is situated on the banks of the Tamir stream. See ancient Mongolian stone engravings. Dinner, night under canvass (tent).

Day 19: Tuvkhun monastery

Day 20 : Karakorum Erdene zuu monastery
Karakorum historical centre and ancient capital of Mongolia. Visit Erdene zuu, built in 1585. Lunch en route. Dinner, night under canvass (tent).
Day 21 : Return to Ulan-Bator
Arrival at end of the day. Transfer to your guesthouse or hotel.
